Your account, your choices

Privacy policy

Here's what AniNest stores and how you can control it.

Updated 8 October 2026

Account data

Creating an account stores your username, email address, password hash, account creation date, watchlist, and episode progress. Your password is hashed by ASP.NET Identity. Your email, watchlist, and saved progress are private to your account.

Episode comments, reviews, and recommendations are public, with your username, rating, text, spoiler label, and posting date. Do not include personal contact details in a post. Hidden posts remain available to moderators until you delete them or your account.

Cookies and device history

Security cookies protect forms and keep you signed in. Choosing “Keep me signed in” makes the login persist between visits, subject to the site's session expiry.

Recent watching is also stored in this browser's local storage, including the title and episode you opened. It records a recent visit, not proof you watched an episode. Only players that report their actual playback position can provide a resume time. Use “Clear device history” on the homepage to remove the local list. Anyone using the same browser profile can see this list.

External artwork and players

Loading remote artwork or a third-party player sends requests to its host. Those hosts receive information such as your IP address and browser details and may store their own cookies. Their policies apply independently. AniNest's discovery rankings are fetched on the server from external anime catalogs. Your account information is not included in those metadata requests.

Reports and server logs

A report stores its subject, description, optional contact email, and signed-in account identifier so an operator can investigate it. Hosting and application services may retain technical request and error logs. Their retention is controlled by the operator and hosting provider; passwords and session tokens should never be included in a report.

Download or delete your data

Open My account to download your account data, saved lists, progress, episode comments, reviews, and recommendations. Deleting your account removes those records from the active database. Device history is separate and can be cleared on the homepage or in your browser settings. Hosting backups may retain prior database snapshots until the provider's retention period ends.

Contact and updates

Use the report form for a privacy request. This policy will be updated when the site's data practices change. AniNest is not intended for children under 13.
